Joven de 18 años fue al médico por fuerte dolor menstrual y se enteró de que tenía 6 meses de embarazo

Destiny Stephens-Coull: De Estudiante a Madre de Manera Inesperada
En una jornada laboral habitual en Nando’s, un restaurante especializado en parrilla portuguesa, Destiny Stephens-Coull, de 18 años, vivió una experiencia que transformaría su vida de manera radical. La joven, quien compaginaba sus estudios universitarios con un empleo de medio tiempo, comenzó a sentir intensos dolores abdominales, los cuales inicialmente confundió con síntomas menstruales.
Mientras Destiny se encontraba en su último año universitario, también se preparaba para continuar con otro título académico, habiendo recibido ya la confirmación de aceptación por parte de su institución, según informó ‘Daily Mail’.
Sin embargo, durante uno de sus turnos en el restaurante, los dolores se intensificaron y acompañaron de un sangrado abundante, lo que la llevó a buscar ayuda en el baño del local. Después de media hora en esta situación, Destiny contactó al gerente del restaurante: “Los baños parecían una escena del crimen; había sangre por todas partes”, relató la joven al ‘Daily Mail’.
El desmayo fue inevitable debido a la pérdida de cuatro litros de sangre, lo que requirió varias transfusiones. Al recobrar la conciencia, Destiny se encontró rodeada de enfermeras que le preguntaron si estaba embarazada, a lo que ella respondió negativamente.
Destiny no había presentado ninguna señal típica de embarazo: su peso no había aumentado, su vientre se mantenía plano, y su menstruación continuaba regularmente. Además, no había experimentado mareos ni antojos, y su vida social era activa y normal para alguien de su edad.
La sorpresa llegó cuando una enfermera le informó que estaba embarazada. “No puede ser, estuve de fiesta el fin de semana pasado”, recordó haber dicho Destiny a ‘The Sun’.
El parto de su hijo, Kingsley, tuvo lugar ese mismo día mediante una cesárea de emergencia. Nacido con solo seis meses de gestación, Kingsley pesó tres libras y una onza y enfrentó graves problemas de salud, incluyendo dos hemorragias cerebrales, hidrocefalia e ictericia.
“Al verlo por primera vez, me pareció adorable, pero no me sentí como una madre de inmediato. Estaba aterrorizada de contarle a mi madre, así que la partera se encargó de darle la noticia”, compartió Destiny.
Las preocupaciones sobre el desarrollo de Kingsley eran significativas, ya que los médicos advirtieron sobre posibles dificultades para hablar o caminar debido a las complicaciones que enfrentó. No obstante, dos años después, el pequeño ha mostrado un desarrollo normal.
“Jamás planeé ser madre a tan corta edad y temí ser juzgada por ello, pero he recibido mucho apoyo. Estoy inmensamente feliz; Kingsley se está convirtiendo en un niño cariñoso y bondadoso”, declaró Destiny a ‘Daily Mail’.
