Nuevo radar protegerá la Isla del Coco y los recursos marinos
En un esfuerzo conjunto entre diversas entidades gubernamentales y ONGs, se ha dado un importante paso en la protección de los recursos marinos cercanos a la Isla del Coco.
La instalación de un nuevo radar, valuado en $99 mil, promete fortalecer las labores de vigilancia y patrullaje para salvaguardar las especies marinas de la pesca ilegal y otras amenazas.
El ministro de Ambiente y Energía, Franz Tattenbach, destacó el compromiso de las ONG y el respaldo de las instituciones gubernamentales en la protección del Área de Conservación Marina Isla del Coco.
“Esta colaboración ha permitido la adquisición e instalación del radar, que será fundamental para preservar este valioso patrimonio natural del Estado”, manifestó Tattenbach.
El proyecto ha sido posible gracias a la cooperación entre el Servicio Nacional de Guardacostas, el Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE), EARTHRACE y funcionarios del Ministerio de Ambiente y Energía (Minae).
Según Alejandra Villalobos, Directora Ejecutiva de Fundación Amigos de la Isla del Coco (FAICO), la ubicación estratégica de la Isla del Coco la convierte en un ecosistema insular vital para el planeta, por lo que invertir en medidas de control y vigilancia es fundamental para garantizar la soberanía del país y promover la conservación marina a nivel local y regional.
