Exsubgerente del BCR imputado por el ‘cementazo’ fallece en aparatoso accidente de tránsito junto a su esposa
Leonardo Acuña Alvarado, exsubgerente general de Finanzas y Riesgos del Banco de Costa Rica (BCR), falleció junto a su esposa, Sara Herrera Marcos, en un aparatoso accidente de tránsito la noche del pasado sábado 16 de marzo en Quepos, Puntarenas.
Según informó el medio ¡Qué Torta! Acuña circulaba sobre la ruta Interamericana sur pasadas las 11:00 p.m. a bordo de su vehículo 4×4 cuando trató de adelantar un chapulín, en ese momento se encontró de frente con un autobús. Al intentar regresar al carril colisionó contra una de las llantas del vehículo agrícola, posteriormente recibió el impacto en seco del camión.
Acuña se había jubilado recientemente; el 12 de marzo cumplió 66 años. En este año 2024, él y Herrera celebrarían 40 años de matrimonio. Juntos tenían dos hijos.
El exbanquero murió en el lugar del percance, mientras que su esposa fue trasladada a un centro médico donde luchó por su vida durante varios días, sin embargo, este martes 19 de marzo falleció.
Los funerales de ambos se realizarán este jueves 21 de marzo en la Parroquia San Vicente Ferrer, en Moravia a las 10:00 a.m. serán sepultados juntos.
Investigado por el famoso caso del “Cementazo”
La Fiscalía acusó a Acuña por seis delitos: dos de peculado, dos de tráfico de influencias, uno de falsedad ideológica y uno por falsificación de documento público en modalidad agravada, informó ¡Qué Torta!
Permaneció en prisión preventiva desde noviembre de 2017 hasta marzo de 2018, momento en el que la medida fue modificada a arresto domiciliario, el cual cumplió hasta septiembre de 2018.
El exbanquero figuraba como uno de los imputados por el caso “cementazo” tras ser sospechoso de facilitar la sustracción de fondos públicos al autorizar dos créditos hasta por un máximo de 30 millones de dólares a Sinocem Costa Rica para la importación de cemento proveniente de China.
Además, la Fiscalía había iniciado otra investigación por el supuesto delito de fraude de simulación. Esto ocurrió después de que Acuña aparentemente donara a su esposa un terreno en Calle Blancos, un Nissan Murano y un Porsche Cayenne, en noviembre del 2017, justo antes de que el Juzgado Penal de Hacienda embargara sus bienes y cuentas a solicitud de la Procuraduría General de la República (PGR).
Con la muerte del polémico banquero quedan sin efecto las investigaciones en las que figuraba como sospechoso.
“Con el fallecimiento de una persona que figure como imputada dentro de un proceso penal lo que procede es solicitar al Juzgado Penal correspondiente un sobreseimiento definitivo por extinción de la acción penal por muerte del imputado, conforme al artículo 311 inciso d) en relación con el artículo 30 inciso a) del Código Procesal Penal”, explicó el Ministerio Público en una publicación de Semanario Universidad.
