¡Orgullo tico! “Medallita” Jiménez conquista victoria histórica sobre excampeón mundial mexicano

El boxeador tico David “Medallita” Jiménez Rodríguez noqueó al mexicano Ganigan “El Maravilla” López, excampeón mundial absoluto del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo, en el Fight Fest 4 que se llevó a cabo en el redondel de Toros de las Fiestas Cívicas Palmareñas el pasado 19 de enero.
En todo el combate Jiménez fue superior a su rival. En el séptimo asalto noqueó al boxeador azteca.
“No sé dónde estaría yo en estos momentos, en qué parte de Cartago estaría delinquiendo, si no hubiera sido por mi esposa que me ha apoyado. Esto es lo lindo del deporte, que me tiene aquí sin camisa entre las cuerdas de un cuadrilátero y no en las esquinas de un barrio haciendo daño”, declaró “Medallita” a La Jornada tras finalizar el combate.
“Estamos para pelear doce, trece, catorce rounds, y ahora nos toca enfrentar al número tres del ranking, Johnnie Edwards”, agregó.
“Medallita” ha participado en 15 combates como boxeador profesional, logrando la victoria en 14 de ellos y experimentando una única derrota.
Jiménez, oriundo del proyecto Manuel de Jesús Jiménez en Cartago, es campeón latinoamericano del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo y campeón mundial oro de la Asociación Mundial de Boxeo.
Ahora, David se enfoca en disputar una vez más el título de las 112 libras. Para lograrlo debe enfrentarse ante Johnnie Edwards, el número tres del ranking.
El costarricense se encuentra en el segundo lugar de esa clasificación.
