Nayib Bukele se postula para la reelección en El Salvador y desafía restricciones constitucionales
Bukele inscribió oficialmente su candidatura presidencial para las elecciones generales de 2024 en busca de la reelección.
Una cuestionada candidatura. En El Salvador, la Constitución prohíbe que un presidente pueda ser candidato para un segundo periodo inmediato. Sin embargo, Nayib Bukele, actual mandatario de la nación centroamericana, ya oficializó su postulación. Lo hizo en la medianoche de este jueves 26 de octubre.
Acompañado de simpatizantes y protegido por un fuerte resguardo policial, Bukele llegó hasta el Tribunal Supremo Electoral (TSE) -junto con su compañero de fórmula y actual vicepresidente Félix Ulloa– para inscribir su candidatura para las elecciones presidenciales de 2024, con el auspicio de su movimiento Nuevas Ideas.
Banderas azules, cartones con su rostro y expresiones de apoyo a su nuevo intento de mandato rodearon el escenario, en los exteriores del TSE, en San Salvador.
“¡Reelección! ¡Reelección!”, gritaban sus simpatizantes, que estaban separados de su virtual candidato por al menos dos filas de agentes de seguridad. Mientras, Bukele agradecía el apoyo con un megáfono. “Yo también los amo”, dijo.
“La reelección la decidirán ustedes, nosotros únicamente nos estamos postulando como candidatos. Serán ustedes los que decidan si quieren que haya reelección”, explicó.
¿Puede Bukele competir nuevamente por la Presidencia?
Seis artículos de la Constitución lo prohiben: el 75, numeral 4; el 88; el 131, numeral 16; el 152 numeral 1, el 154 y el 248, numeral 4. Sin embargo, en septiembre de 2022, la Sala de lo Constitucional de la Corte Suprema dictó un fallo en el que determinó que el mandatario sí podría postularse a repetir el cargo.
La orden del Tribunal deja sin efecto un dictamen de 2014 que prohibía que los presidentes puedan ser reelectos en los diez años posteriores a su mandato.
El fallo a favor de Bukele ha sido ampliamente cuestionado por venir de una Sala compuesta por magistrados afines al presidente, luego de que todos los miembros previos de la Sala de los Constitucional fueran destituidos, en 2021, por la Asamblea de mayoría oficialista, con el argumento de que emitieron dictámenes contrarios a los decretos del Ejecutivo.
La oposición salvadoreña, así como organizaciones de derechos humanos, han denunciado que Bukele estaría acaparando todos los poderes: Ejecutivo, Legislativo y Judicial.
Ahora, el TSE tiene tres días hábiles para aceptar su candidatura. Partidos opositores, como Nuestro Tiempo, presentaron a la par un escrito para que el organismo electoral rechace su candidatura por violar los artículos de la Constitución.
