Google pide al Congreso de EE. UU. no prohibir a los adolescentes acceder a redes sociales
Google respondió a las propuestas del Congreso de EE. UU. de verificar la edad de los usuarios de internet. La compañía rechaza estos intentos.
La gigante de internet Google publicó un marco legislativo para “proteger a niños y adolescentes en línea” como una respuesta a las propuestas de legisladores estadounidense de exigir que las plataformas verifiquen la edad de los usuarios.
A través de una publicación de blog, la empresa rechaza todo intento de obligar a las personas de cargar sus copias de identificaciones gubernamentales para acceder a internet.
Google contra las prohibiciones
Google rechaza estas leyes de consentimiento, argumentando que impiden que los adolescentes vulnerables accedan a información útil.
«Los buenos modelos legislativos, como aquellos basados en principios de diseño apropiados para la edad, pueden ayudar a responsabilizar a las empresas de promover la seguridad y la privacidad, al tiempo que permiten el acceso a experiencias más ricas para niños y adolescentes», dijo Kent Walker, presidente de asuntos globales de Google.
En YouTube, la polémica es similar. La división de videos publicó su propio marco para niños, donde explica cómo es que Google orienta sus esfuerzos para que la plataforma no proporcione anuncios personalizados a los menores y cómo les brinda herramientas de control familiar.
«Las familias de todo el mundo merecen la misma experiencia en línea segura y de alta calidad, sin importar dónde vivan», escribió Mohan. “Y todos los niños y adolescentes deberían tener el mismo acceso a las oportunidades que ofrece internet. A medida que los jóvenes evolucionan continuamente en la forma en que aparecen en línea, también lo harán nuestros servicios y políticas”.
Medidas en crecimiento
Durante el último año, las legislaturas estatales de todo el país aprobaron nuevas leyes que regulan cómo los niños menores de 18 años pueden interactuar con Internet.
Algunos estados, como Luisiana, han adaptado sus proyectos de ley para prohibir que los niños vean pornografía en línea, obligando a todos, incluidos los adultos, a verificar su edad antes de utilizar el sitio. La propuesta de Google no se opone a la verificación de edad en sitios de pornografía y juegos de apuestas.
Otros legisladores, como la senadora Elizabeth Warren, se están alineando detrás de la Ley de Seguridad Infantil en Línea, un controvertido proyecto de ley destinado a proteger a los niños de contenidos peligrosos en línea.
