Kenia: cien alumnas padecen una ‘enfermedad extraña’ que les impide caminar
Las alumnas de un colegio al oeste de Kenia no podían caminar debido a un dolor intenso en sus rodillas. Hasta el momento, se han realizado cinco pruebas y no se han identificado patógenos.
Cerca de un centenar de alumnas de Kenia sufrieron el brote de una «enfermedad extraña», aún sin identificar, que les provoca un dolor tan fuerte en las rodillas que les impide caminar. Por este motivo, el Ministerio de Educación de Kenia cerró el instituto del oeste del país.
A las compañeras de las estudiantes enfermas «se les ha permitido tomar un descanso temporal y se espera que vuelvan la semana próxima, una vez que la situación haya sido evaluada cuidadosamente y se implementen las medidas necesarias para impedir una situación similar», indicaron en un comunicado conjunto el Ministerio de Educación y el Gobierno del condado de Kakamega, donde ocurrieron los hechos.

Según Wesonga, las alumnas no pueden caminar debido a un dolor intenso en sus rodillas.
Otras fuentes médicas señalaron, bajo la condición de anonimato, que las pacientes tenían niveles altos de electrolitos, algo que puede estar relacionado con la deshidratación, un trastorno de las glándulas suprarrenales o problemas en los riñones.
Sin rastros de patógenos
Según el Daily Nation de Kenia, la secretaria del Gabinete de Salud, Susa Nakhumicha, informó que no ha identificado ningún patógeno en las cinco pruebas que realizó en muestras recogidas en el colegio de las estudiantes afectadas y anunció que se realizarán más pruebas para determinar la enfermedad.
«Hemos estado en contacto con el director de Salud Pública y, hasta ayer, había 95 niñas hospitalizadas. Al final de hoy esperamos tener un informe completo. Hasta el momento, se han realizado cinco pruebas y no se han identificado patógenos», precisó.
