Cinco años de cárcel para mujer que incendió clínica de aborto
El aborto es legal en este estado, pero así como en otros, los legisladores republicanos trabajan para restringir su acceso.
Una estudiante universitaria que incendió una edificación que serviría como la única clínica de aborto en el estado estadounidense de Wyoming fue sentenciada este jueves a cinco años de cárcel, informaron medios de comunicación.
Lorna Roxanne Green, de 22 años, admitió haber invadido el centro Wellspring Health Access en la ciudad de Casper (oeste) y haberlo rociado con gasolina en mayo del año pasado, a semanas de su inauguración.
La mujer se enfrentaba a una pena de hasta 20 años de cárcel por incendio provocado, pero después de declararse culpable la corte la sentenció a cinco años y le ordenó pagar una restitución de 273.000 dólares, añadió el medio.
La inauguración de la clínica fue pospuesta por varias semanas por el daño causado, lo cual impidió el acceso al aborto en el conservador estado de Wyoming.
A pesar de que la mayoría de la sociedad apoya el acceso al aborto, políticos conservadores y sus seguidores de vertiente evangélica avanzan en sus esfuerzos por bloquear el procedimiento en varias regiones de Estados Unidos.
El año pasado la Corte Suprema de Estados Unidos revirtió el fallo que durante décadas garantizó el derecho a abortar en el país.
