Niña no recibe medalla por su color de piel en competencia de gimnasia y las disculpas llegan un año después
Gymnastics Ireland, organizador del evento de GymSTART, pidió disculpas por este hecho discriminatoria ocurrido hace aproximadamente 18 meses.
Indignación ha generado un video donde una niña no recibe una medalla en medio de una competencia de gimnasia en Irlanda.
El hecho ocurrió en marzo del 2022, pero se ha viralizado recientemente en redes sociales acusando discriminación y racismo, por lo que la Federación Irlandesa de Gimnasia (encargada de organizar el evento “GymSTART”), tuvo que emitir un comunicado pidiendo disculpas por lo acontecido.
Como se ve en las imágenes, la menor afrodescendiente queda mirando mientras sus compañeras reciben la medalla. Según explica el comunicado, la funcionaria que no quiso entregar el reconocimiento a la menor pidió disculpas por lo sucedido asegurando que sí se le dio el premio a la familia de la niña posteriormente.

“El funcionario aceptó que lo ocurrido no había sido aceptable, pero destacó que no había sido intencionado. Señaló que al darse cuenta del error, lo rectificaron inmediatamente y se aseguraron de que la competidora en cuestión recibiera su medalla antes de abandonar el recinto”, afirmaron en el documento.
Concluyeron: “El funcionario también expresó su profundo pesar por lo que describió como un error honesto y solicitó la oportunidad de disculparse en persona con la competidora y su familia. Esta solicitud fue inicialmente rechazada. Desde entonces, la persona identificada ha enviado una disculpa por escrito a la competidora y su familia”.
