Madre que mató a sus dos hijas a tiros fue condenada a 78 años de cárcel
De acuerdo con las autoridades, la madre sedó a las menores, de 15 y 5 años, con gomitas de melatonina para posteriormente asesinarlas. La mayor de las hijas llamó a la Policía antes de morir por la gravedad de sus heridas.
Una madre de Virginia, Estados Unidos, fue condenada a 78 años de prisión tras ser declarada culpable por el doble asesinato de sus hijas. Al parecer, la mujer cometió el crimen en medio de una disputa con su expareja por la custodia de las menores.
De acuerdo con las autoridades, Verónica Youngblood, de 38 años, asesinó a sus dos hijas, identificadas como Sharon Castro, de 15 años, y Brooklyn Youngblood, de 5, con un arma de fuego en su apartamento ubicado en McLean, Virginia, en agosto de 2018.
Antes de matarlas, la mujer habría sedado a sus dos hijas con gomitas de melatonina. Luego de que las niñas se fueron a dormir, su madre les disparó.
Aunque la adolescente alcanzó a ser trasladada a un centro asistencial, murió debido a la gravedad de sus heridas.
En el interrogatorio, Youngblood confesó que su plan era matar a sus hijas y luego quitarse la vida para acabar con la prolongada disputa que tenía con su expareja, Ron Youngblood, por la custodia de las niñas.
En medio de la sentencia, la mujer se describió a sí misma como una “buena madre”, pero que “algo pasó” en su cerebro el día en que decidió acabar con la vida de sus dos hijas. “No sé cómo explicarlo, algo explotó en mi mente”, confesó.
En su defensa, Youngblood argumentó que padecía de demencia, alegando en el juicio que escuchó voces al momento de cometer el crimen, pero su solicitud para ser declarada mentalmente inimputable fue rechazada.
Después de escuchar la historia de vida de la madre, que creció en la pobreza, sufrió de abusos físicos y sexuales cuando era tan solo una niña y que se vio obligada a recurrir al trabajo sexual para poder mantener a su hija mayor, el jurado sentenció una pena máxima de 78 años de prisión.
“Las madres y los padres tienen muchas responsabilidades, pero ninguna es más grave que mantener seguros a sus hijos. Trágicamente, su madre se convirtió en el instrumento de su muerte”, dijo el juez del Tribunal de Circuito del Condado de Fairfax, Randy Bellows.
