Las razones detrás del cierre de Grupo Extra
“Doy gracias a ustedes televidentes por haber sido parte de nuestro grupo, de nuestra familia”, indicó Iary Gómez, propietaria y gerente general de Grupo Extra.
“Ha sido difícil tomar esta decisión, pero necesaria, debido a la falta de reactivación económica del país no contamos con la venta necesaria ni ejemplares ni tampoco con la pauta publicitaria. La tecnología, el covid han sido también enemigos de la venta de los periódicos, el alto costo de las materias primas también ha sido un factor en contra de seguir con esta empresa abierta”.
Con estas palabras la propietaria y gerente general de Grupo Extra, Iary Gómez, explicó los motivos del cierre de las operaciones periodísticas de los tres medios de su grupo empresarial: Diario Extra, Extra Tv Canal 42 y Radio América 780 AM a partir de este jueves 1° de junio.
Informaciones publicadas por el rotativo en 2022 apuntaban a un conflicto interno entre propietarios, con acusaciones legales y reclamos por cientos de millones de colones.
“Hoy no pierde la familia Gómez Quesada o el Grupo Extra, hoy pierde Costa Rica, un país democrático, con el cierre de estos tres medios de comunicación que nunca han tenido color político y defensores de la libertad de expresión y de prensa.
La noticia del cierre fue dada a conocer mediante un comunicado de prensa publicado en las redes sociales de Diario Extra la tarde de este miércoles.
“Después de 45 años de transmitir información veraz a nivel nacional e internacional y de haber logrado convertirse en ¡La voz del pueblo!, el Grupo Extra lamenta informarles el cierre de sus operaciones a partir de mañana 01 de junio 2023”, inicia el boletín.
“Por diversas situaciones, llegamos a nuestro fin, con la frente en alto de que pudimos luchar hasta el final, pero a su vez, con tristeza y preocupación por el futuro de la democracia costarricense”, agrega.
Diario Extra fue fundado en 1978 por William Gómez, quien falleció en 2012.
