El Salvador en alerta por la actividad del volcán Chaparrastique
Volcán aumentó la emisión de gases y ceniza en las últimas horas.
109 sismos diarios en el Volcán de Chaparrastique, en el departamento de San Miguel, en El Salvador, registra el Observatorio de Amenazas Sísmicas hasta el martes 27 de mayo. La cifra actual supone un incremento respecto de los 8 sismos diarios, en promedio, observados en fechas anteriores.
En paralelo, el Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (Marn) informó, en su Informe Especial No. 22, que incrementa la emisión de gases de Dióxido de Azufre, con cargas que oscilan entre las 300 a las 400 toneladas diarias, que incrementan durante el día.
“Incrementos significativos en la sismicidad” se registra en el Observatorio de Amenazas, en torno a la actividad telúrica del Volcán de Chaparrastique. Detalla el informe, pues, que la cifra acumulada de sismos ha pasado de “un promedio de tres a ocho sismos por día a más de 109 sismos diarios en los últimos registros”.
También, la estación DOAS, ubicada en el flanco oeste del volcán, ha registrado “cambios en el flujo de Dióxido de Azufre (SO2)”. Las mediciones indican que ha habido un “incremento constante en la desgasificación del volcán, alcanzando un máximo de 400 toneladas, superando la línea base de 300 toneladas diarias”. Y, en cuanto a la deformación del terreno, no se han observado cambios significativos según las últimas mediciones.
Snet sostiene, en su informe de pronóstico a mediano plazo, que la emisión de gases y cenizas del volcán de San Miguel influye en las afectaciones leves en el sistema respiratorio de las personas expuestas a estos elementos. Como se ha observado, las probabilidades de afectación oscilan entre el 80% al 100%, e implican afectaciones en la movilidad y transporte, “debido a la presencia de cenizas volcánicas en las vías”.
Recomienda, entre otras cosas, “evitar la visita al cráter del volcán en un radio de al menos 3 kilómetros, ya que puede haber expulsión repentina de gases dañinos para la salud, así como rocas y cenizas a altas temperaturas”. El pronóstico también indica que las emisiones de gases y cenizas podrían continuar en las próximas horas e incluso días, debido a la actividad sísmica relacionada con el movimiento de gases en el interior del volcán.
Sistema de alerta
DGCP, por su parte, no ha demorado en emitir recomendaciones a la población, en búsqueda de generar las condiciones propicias para mantener su seguridad. Insta a las comunidades afectadas de los municipios de San Miguel, San Jorge, Chinameca, San Rafael Oriente, El Tránsito y sectores cercanos al volcán en San Miguel a mantenerse informados sobre los cambios telúricos.
También insta a la población a “no visitar el cráter del volcán en un radio de al menos 3 kilómetros, ya que puede haber expulsión repentina de gases y material volcánico”. Asimismo, se solicita acatar las indicaciones de las autoridades y consultar la información oficial proporcionada por el Observatorio de Amenazas.
Entretanto, el volcán de San Miguel continúa siendo objeto de monitoreo constante debido a su actividad volcánica incrementada en las últimas semanas. Las emisiones de gases y cenizas han generado afectaciones leves en la salud respiratoria de la población cercana, así como en la movilidad y el transporte en la zona.
