Epsy Campbell aplaude decisión del Saprissa de despedir a Jeaustin Campos
“Celebro que se tomen decisiones sobre actos que son inaceptables y eso fortalece el esfuerzo por construir una sociedad de respeto”, manifestó la exvicepresidenta.
La exvicepresidenta de la República (2018-2022), Epsy Campbell Barr, aplaudió la decisión del Deportivo Saprissa de despedir al estratega Jeaustin Campos por comentarios racistas.
El conjunto morado anunció la mañana de este martes que rescindió el contrato con Campos luego de que el delantero jamaiquino, Javon East, denunciara que el técnico lo llamó “Negro bastardo”, “Negro de mierda”.
“Esto es un acto contundente de un tema que pareciera que se había querido ver como menor”, declaró Campbell al periódico La Nación.
La exvicepresidenta, quien además es fundadora de la Coalición Global contra el Racismo Sistémico, indicó que el caso no debe quedar ahí pues sostuvo que el gerente deportivo del Saprissa, Ángel Catalina, también actuó mal.
Según la misiva, publicada por el medio Tigo Sports, el delantero jamaiquino acudió al gerente deportivo del club para exponerle lo sucedido , pero él minimizó los hechos y le aseguró que ese tipo de expresiones son algo “muy normal” en Costa Rica.
Sobre Catalina, Campbell dijo: “El gerente deportivo no solo falló, si no que no pudo hacer una contención dentro del mismo club y eso era una responsabilidad de él. Falló y utilizó su prejuicio como un elemento para acallar un hecho grave y no hay forma de que pueda decir otra cosa.
“Tenemos que escucharlo, yo espero que dé alguna declaración y que él entienda que los errores históricos los queremos corregir”, finalizó.
