Gerardo Zamora enfrenta obstáculos financieros para tratamiento clínico en Estados Unidos
El periodista lucha por obtener fondos para su estancia en Boston.
La semana anterior Gerardo Zamora recibió una excelente noticia: fue aceptado por el Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, en Boston, Estados Unidos para ser parte de un ensayo clínico.
Sin embargo, el experiodista de Telenoticias se enfrenta a un nuevo reto: enfrenta obstáculos financieros para costear su estancia en Boston, pues el ensayo tiene una duración de seis meses.
“Entiendo que el instituto ofrece algunas facilidades a los pacientes, pero no todas, o sea, el hospital tampoco es que tiene un hotel, por lo que estoy empezando a investigar no solo lo médico, sino como enfrentar ese otro desafío”, agregó.
Gerardo estuvo por varios meses luchando por ser parte del estudio clínico y ahora que fue aceptado no quiere perder la oportunidad porque sabe que es única ya que, según informó La Nación, en Costa Rica la única alternativa que le ofrece la Caja Costarricense del Seguro Social (CCSS) es la cirugía y la radioterapia y no otros tratamientos alternativos.
“Es que, si más adelante el tratamiento confirma sus efectos favorables, ¡qué lindo! yo sueño con que ese tratamiento pueda ser traído a Costa Rica y aprobado. ¡Qué lindo verdad!, poder regalarle una mejor calidad de vida a muchos costarricenses que están pasando lo mismo que yo”, finalizó.
El caso
Recordemos que en junio del 2019 la vida del experiodista de Telenoticias cambió radicalmente. Fue en ese mes cuando los doctores le dieron un diagnóstico devastador: un tumor benigno, específicamente un meningioma, se alojó detrás de su ojo derecho y le estaba afectando algunos órganos internos.
Desde entonces, por más operaciones y radioterapias que ha recibido, los meningiomas siguen apareciendo.
El caso de Gerardo es atípico, porque comúnmente estos tumores, llamados meningiomas tipo 3, cuando se operan no vuelven a molestar y son de crecimiento muy lento.
Sin embargo, en el caso del herediano es todo lo contrario, cada tres meses le aparecen en otras partes de la cabeza, con más velocidad y agresividad. Incluso se vuelven a formar en lugares donde ya habían sido extirpados.
