La población mundial llegará a 8.000 millones en pocas horas: sigue en vivo el conteo
Estamos a punto de vivir un momento histórico para la humanidad. En poco más de una década, la población mundial se ha incrementado 1.000 millones.
Las últimas proyecciones de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU) indican que la población mundial alcanzará los 8.000 millones de habitantes este martes 15 de noviembre de 2022.
La cifra corresponde al informe Perspectivas de la Población Mundial elaborado por la entidad internacional, que presenta estimaciones de población desde 1950 hasta el presente para 237 países o áreas, respaldadas por análisis de tendencias demográficas históricas.
Con base en estas proyecciones, el sitio web de referencia Worldometer comparte un conteo en tiempo real, en el que se muestra la cifra de la población mundial actual, así como el crecimiento demográfico en el transcurso del día (número de nacimientos menos número de muertes).
Hasta el mediodía del 14 de noviembre de 2022, el coteo bordeaba los 7 999 885 000. Es decir, a poco más de 100.000 para llegar a la cifra histórica.
¿Cuánto falta para llegar a los 8.000 millones?
Según el conteo de Worldometer, a las 13.00 (hora Costa Rica), la población mundial se estima en 7.999.893.000.
¿Cómo sabemos que llegamos a 8.000 millones de habitantes?
“Esta última evaluación considera los resultados de 1.758 censos nacionales de población realizados entre 1950 y 2022, así como información de los sistemas de registro civil y de 2.890 encuestas por muestreo representativas a nivel nacional”, detalla el informe de la ONU.
Asimismo, prevé que India superará a China como el país más poblado de la Tierra en 2023.
Ralentización del crecimiento demográfico
Si bien ha tomado poco más de una década (desde 2011) para ascender de 7.000 millones a 8.000 millones de habitantes, este crecimiento está condenado a estancarse en este siglo.
Según el mencionado informe, la población mundial está creciendo a su ritmo anual más lento desde 1950, lo cual se debe principalmente a la baja tasa de fecundidad.
En 2021, la tasa de fecundidad media era de 2,3 niños por mujer, frente a 5 de media en 1950, según la ONU, que prevé 2,1 para 2050.
Así, se proyecta que la población mundial alcanzará un pico de alrededor de 10.400 millones de habitantes durante la década de 2080, permanecerá así hasta 2100 y luego comenzará a decrecer.
