Devuelven caravana de 600 migrantes, la mayoría venezolanos
Las autoridades solo le dieron el paso a mujeres embarazadas y familias con menores de edad.
Las autoridades de Guatemala devolvieron una caravana de 600 migrante sin papeles a suelo hondureño.
Según Alejandra Mena, vocera del Instituto Guatemalteco de Migración (IGM), la caravana, mayoritariamente conformada por venezolanos, ingresó a Guatemala por un paso fronterizo “no autorizado” y, según las autoridades, su objetivo era seguir hacia Tapachula, México y llegar a los Estados Unidos.
Tras horas de diálogo, la caravana, conformada también por migrantes de Colombia, Haití y Honduras, regresaron a suelo catracho.
A la marcha, el IGM solo autorizó el pase humanitario de 155 personas, sobre todo a familias con menores, embarazadas y por otras razones humanitarias. “Luego de dialogar con las personas, accedieron a retornar de manera voluntaria hacia Honduras por el puesto fronterizo de Corinto”, en el departamento de Izabal (noreste), indicó Mena.
“Nuestro actuar está apegado a lo establecido en el código de migración. Proveemos desde el IGM el respeto a los derechos humanos y población migrante, así como una migración regular, ordenada y segura”, aseguró Stuard Rodríguez, Director General del Instituto Guatemalteco de Migración.
“Por instrucciones del señor presidente de la República, estamos analizando y coordinando casos de emergencia de mujeres embarazadas o situaciones que necesitan ayuda humanitaria”, concluyó el director general del IGM.
Ya en Honduras, el grupo fue retenido por policías y organizaciones especializadas en Derechos Humanos (DDHH), como el Alto Comisionado de las Naciones Unidas para los Refugiados (Acnur), Cruz Roja y el Fondo de las Naciones Unidas para la Infancia (Unicef, por sus siglas en inglés).
Tanto Honduras como Guatemala son corredores para cientos de migrantes que buscan llegar a suelo estadounidense.
No obstante, la situación no siempre ha sido así: la última marcha masiva (7.500 migrantes) que entró a suelo guatemalteco fue disuelta a bastonazos y gas lacrimógeno por policías y militares en el departamento de Chiquimula, también fronterizo con Honduras.
