Vacunación contra la Covid-19 en menores de edad será obligatoria
La CNVE tomó decisión amparada en la Ley General de Salud, el Código de la Niñez y la Adolescencia.
La Comisión Nacional de Vacunación y Epidemiología (CNVE) ratificó que la inmunización contra la Covid-19 será obligatoria para todas las personas menores de edad en Costa Rica.
Así lo dio a conocer la mañana de este viernes el Ministerio de Salud mediante un comunicado de prensa.
“Amparados en la Ley General de Salud, el Código de la Niñez y la Adolescencia, en resguardo del principio del interés superior del niño, la niña y el adolescente y tomando en cuenta que desde marzo 2021 la vacuna contra Covid-19 es parte del esquema básico oficial de vacunación”, indica el documento.
En el país, las vacunas incluidas en el cuadro básico establecido por la CNVE son obligatorias para personas menores de edad, entre ellas aquellas contra la varicela, la polio, más recientemente contra el Virus de Papiloma Humano incorporada en el 2017 y este año la incorporación de la inmunización contra la Covid-19.
“Costa Rica es un país que se ha caracterizado por procurar el más alto grado de bienestar para las personas menores de edad. La salud es un pilar importantísimo en ese objetivo del bienestar y la vacunación, el esquema básico de vacunación el cual es obligatorio ha permitido mantener alejadas muchas de las enfermedades y virus que provocan muchos sufrimientos, secuelas de salud, problemas en general de salud incluso fatalidades en esa población menor de edad”, declaró el jerarca de Salud, Daniel Salas.
“Por eso la Comisión Nacional de Vacunación y Epidemiología ratificó que la vacunación contra el Covid-19 es obligatoria para todas las personas menores de edad como parte de ese esquema básico el cual ya se había establecido así desde marzo de este mismo año”, agregó.
En principio la medida se aplicará para mayores de 12 años, sin embargo, cuando se autorice la vacunación para mayores de 5 años también aplicará.
“Los padres y madres o representantes legales tienen la responsabilidad de que la vacunación obligatoria de las personas menores de edad se lleve a cabo oportunamente, así como a las instituciones que conforman el Sistema Nacional de Protección Integral, entre ellas la CCSS, el Ministerio de Salud, el Ministerio de Educación Pública y el Patronato Nacional de la Infancia, cada una desde su ámbito de competencia, deben velar por la garantía del derecho a la salud y la vida de los niños, niñas y adolescentes”, informó la entidad.
Otro acuerdo tomado por la CNVE es que la población mayor de 15 años puede ser inoculada sin necesidad de ir acompañada por una persona adulta, siempre con la respectiva valoración de cada caso.
Según información de la Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS) al 2 de noviembre, el 73 % de la población de 12 a 19 años ya cuenta con al menos una dosis de vacuna contra la Covid-19. Desde el lunes 25 de octubre se abrió de forma general la inmunización de adolescentes mayores de 12 años.
