Michael Soto lamenta publicación que coloca al país como “el nuevo ‘paraíso’ de los carteles”
Un reportaje de Noticias Univisión indicó que la fama de Costa Rica como un país tranquilo se está diluyendo.
El jerarca de Seguridad Pública, Michael Soto, salió al paso de la publicación de un medio internacional que catalogó a Costa Rica como “el nuevo ‘paraíso’ de los carteles” y en el que se señala que el aumento de decomisos de droga en el país obedece a una mayor presencia de organizaciones mexicanas dedicadas al negocio ilegal.
“La presencia de carteles mexicanos en Costa Rica llevó a que en 2020 hubiera más decomisos de cocaína en su historia y que ahora sea la segunda nación centroamericana con más alijos de droga que descubren las autoridades. Actualmente, la mayoría de los homicidios han estado vinculados al contrabando de narcóticos”, dice parte de la publicación que realizó Noticias Univisión, el 25 de julio anterior.
“Costa Rica ha hecho un trabajo responsable y es el segundo país que más decomisa droga solo por debajo de Panamá. Este es un esfuerzo que se ha venido realizando durante estos años y bueno resulta doloroso que se cuestione por qué decomisamos tanta droga si en años anteriores más bien los cuestionamientos era por qué Costa Rica no decomisaba droga”, indicó el titular de Seguridad.
“Comparémonos con los otros países de la región, prácticamente solo nos gana Panamá, el año pasado decomisamos 71 toneladas de droga todos los cuerpos de policía de Costa Rica y otros países de la región solo 1 o 2 toneladas esto demuestra la claridad, la transparencia y el trabajo eficiente”, agregó.
Sobre el tema el ministro de Seguridad aseguró que la mayoría de esa droga se encuentra en el país un lugar de paso.
“Esto tiene un sentido lógico, las cantidades de drogas que hemos localizado no podrían ser consumidas en Costa Rica porque son cantidades exorbitantes, y me refiero a cocaína, porque en el tema de la marihuana pues sí la marihuana que viene normalmente se queda en Costa Rica, pero la cocaína estas toneladas, estas cantidades importantes van o para los Estados Unidos o van para algunos países de Europa”, explicó Soto.
“Costa Rica está colaborando con la región, está colaborando con el planeta pues para evitar de que se trasiegue esa droga y repito lo hemos hecho responsablemente y por eso las incautaciones y por eso hemos aumentado los decomisos”, finalizó.
Noticias Univisión indicó que los carteles mexicanos de la droga se han apoderado de rutas y negocios ilegales en el país que eran previamente dirigidos por organizaciones de origen colombiano.
