Ante crisis de salud mental en los estudiantes, la UCR hará una pausa en las clases virtuales
La pandemia de la Covid-19 ha dejado secuelas psicológicas en los alumnos.
La Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR), informó este miércoles que realizará en los próximos meses una pausa de una semana en las clases virtuales con el objetivo de salvaguardar la salud mental del estudiantado.
Paralelo a esta medida, los profesores y estudiantes recibirán capacitaciones en primeros auxilios psicológicos para preparar al personal ante situaciones que requieran de apoyo emocional.
Los motivos de consulta de los alumnos atendidos por la Oficina de Bienestar y Salud incluyen ansiedad (36 %), síntomas depresivos (23 %), síntomas mixtos de depresión y ansiedad (18,2 %), estrés (7,4 %) y problemas familiares (6,8 %), entre otros.
Respecto a la ideación suicida, pensamiento suicida o gesto suicida, la UCR no cuenta con una estadística puntual por ser materia “sensible, delicada y confidencial”.
El propósito de esta pausa, cuyas fechas se darán a conocer en los próximos días, es que la comunidad estudiantil pueda: “desconectarse del trabajo sincrónico virtual, participar en actividades vinculadas a la salud mental y recuperar las energías para terminar el semestre”.
Uno de los factores que más ha afectado a la salud mental de los universitarios ha sido la virtualización de la vida académica. Ante esto, el Consejo de Rectoría valora las medidas necesarias para implementar el regreso escalonado a las lecciones presenciales para el segundo semestre.
Estudiantes levantan la voz
Desde hace varios meses en las redes sociales, diversas organizaciones estudiantiles de la UCR han denunciado la crisis de salud mental que afecta a los alumnos de la institución, especialmente desde el inicio de la pandemia de la Covid-19 en marzo de 2020.
Según una publicación del medio Delfino.CR, datos de la Defensoria Estudiantil Universitaria de la UCR registran al menos cinco suicidios consumados, a los que hay que agregar los intentos y diversas crisis depresivas y ansiosas, que se han agudizado en los últimos meses.
