Estados Unidos ofrecerá pasaporte con tercera opción de género
El Departamento de Estado trabaja en agregar una tercera opción de género para las personas que no se identifican como hombre o mujer.
El Departamento de Estado de los Estados Unidos informó que los ciudadanos denominados como no binarios, intersexuales o no conformes con su género muy pronto podrán elegir una tercera opción adicional a “masculino” y “femenino” al momento de solicitar su pasaporte.
El anuncio fue realizado el miércoles anterior, 30 de junio, último día del Mes del Orgullo de la Comunidad LGBTI+.
“Valoramos nuestro compromiso continuo con la comunidad LGBTI+. Con esta acción, expresamos nuestro compromiso duradero con la comunidad”, indica el documento.
Anthony Blinken, quien está al frente del Departamento de Estado, indicó que esta nueva opción es parte de las iniciativas de la administración de Joe Biden para apoyar los derechos humanos de las personas LGBTI+. Esperan que la medida sea replicada por otras instituciones y países.
Por el momento, los solicitantes de pasaporte, tienen la opción de elegir por sí mismos su género sin necesidad de presentar documentación médica de respaldo pero solo tienen dos opciones disponibles: “masculino” y “femenino”.
Pese a que el Departamento de Estado está a favor de esta iniciativa, reconoce su complejidad, pues requerirá de actualizaciones extensivas a los sistemas, lo que será todo un reto tecnológico, ya que se tendrán que crear nuevas bases de datos, entre otras modificaciones.
