Nueva vacuna contra el cáncer de mama logra detener la enfermedad
El nuevo medicamento podría marcar un antes y un después en el tratamiento del cáncer de mama.
Rochester, Minnesota.- Años de estudios por parte de especialistas de Mayo Clinic dieron como resultado el desarrollo de una vacuna que podría marcar un antes y un después en el tratamiento contra el cáncer de mama.
Los especialistas del centro ubicado en Rochester, Minnesota, Estados Unidos (EEUU) buscan que el fármaco erradique las células de cáncer antes de que crezcan y se desarrollen en el cuerpo humano.
El antídoto fue sometido a pruebas en una mujer estadounidense llamada Lee Mercker, quien fue diagnosticada con cáncer de mama en una etapa temprana. Se le suministraron en total siete dosis en un total de doce semanas.
Tras diferentes análisis clínicos y un largo monitoreo, se concluyó que la vacuna logró eliminar el tumor, además presentó efectos positivos en el sistema inmune. Aún así la fémina no quiso tener inconvenientes a futuro y se sometió a una mastectomía doble para que el cáncer no se desarrolle en su organismo.
El objetivo de la vacuna no solo es atender a mujeres u hombres que ya tienen la enfermedad activa en el cuerpo, sino, administrarla para prevenir una futura aparición, por lo cual las investigaciones deben continuar.
Información de la American Society of Clinical Oncology asegura que en Estados Unidos se detectan cada año más de 270 mil personas con cáncer de mamá, la gran mayoría mujeres, aunque no es única de ellas.
La vacuna antes mencionada es una gran esperanza para la medicina, ya que podría evitar millones de muertes en todo el mundo. Los expertos recomiendas acudir a revisiones periódicas para detectar un posible cáncer en etapa temprana, y así tener el tratamiento sea más fácil.
