Exembajador que desertó de Corea del Norte teme represalias de Kim Jong-un
“Creo que el hecho de que Corea del Norte mantenga un castigo familiar colectivo de tipo feudal en el siglo XXI es espantoso”, sostuvo Ryu Hyeon-woo.
Ryu Hyeon-woo, el exembajador de Corea del Norte que desertó en 2019 en Kuwait, contó a CNN cómo abandonó su país aprovechando su estadía en el país de Oriente Medio junto a su familia, en medio de los temores por una posible represalia de parte del régimen de Kim Jong-un.
“Creo que el hecho de que Corea del Norte mantenga un castigo familiar colectivo de tipo feudal en el siglo XXI es espantoso”, sostuvo Ryu, quien explicó que a menudo los enviados al extranjero se ven obligados a dejar a un hijo en casa como rehén, con lo que se asegura que sus padres no deserten.
En estos momentos, el exembajador está preocupado por sus tres hermanos y su madre de 83 años que todavía viven en Corea del Norte. “Solo quiero verlos vivir mucho tiempo”, dijo, entre lágrimas, Ryu. “Cuando pienso que pueden ser castigados por lo que he hecho, me duele el corazón”, agregó.
Los planes nucleares de Kim Jong-un
Según Ryu, el mandatario de Corea del Norte, Kim Jong-un, no renunciará a su arsenal nuclear, pero podría negociar una reducción de armas para aliviar las sanciones internacionales que paralizan la economía de Pyongyang.
“La energía nuclear de Corea del Norte está directamente relacionada con la estabilidad del régimen”, indicó el exembajador en su primera entrevista desde que desertó a Corea del Sur hace más de un año.
Ryu también señaló que las anteriores administraciones de Estados Unidos se habían sentido “arrinconadas” tras exigir la desnuclearización desde el principio en las negociaciones con el Estado norcoreano.
“EE. UU. no puede dar marcha atrás en la desnuclearización y Kim Jong Un no puede desnuclearizarse”, agregó.
Por otro lado, el exembajador resaltó que la experiencia de la administración de Obama con el programa nuclear de Irán será útil para que el nuevo presidente de EE. UU., Joe Biden, aborde la cuestión norcoreana.
“Basado en su experiencia en la resolución del problema nuclear iraní, no tengo ninguna duda de que podrá manejar el problema nuclear de Corea del Norte de manera inteligente”, enfatizó Ryu.
Deserción
Ryu, quien también ocupó el antiguo puesto de embajador en el Reino Unido, indicó que si los hubieran capturado los agentes norcoreanos, los habrían llevado rápidamente a Pyongyang para castigarlos, ya que la deserción se considera una gran vergüenza para el régimen de Kim.
Las deserciones de altos funcionarios son raras, pero la de Ryu se produjo solo dos meses después de que el exembajador interino de Corea del Norte en Italia, Jo Song Gil, también solicitara asilo, informa Infobae.
Tae Yang-ho es otro desertor de alto perfil que abandonó su cargo como embajador adjunto de Corea del Norte en Gran Bretaña en 2016.
