Fabrizio Soccorsi, médico personal del papa Francisco, muere por COVID-19
El médico había sido ingresado al hospital Gemelli por una patología oncológica. Este sábado, los medios vaticanos reportaron su deceso.
El médico personal del papa Francisco, ha muerto por complicaciones debido al coronavirus, informan los medios vaticanos este sábado 9 de enero.
En esta jornada, su paciente, Francisco, había anunciado que recibirá la vacuna contra la COVID-19 “la semana que viene”, y denunció, en una entrevista televisiva, el “negacionismo suicida” de los que se oponen a ese remedio contra la pandemia.
Socorsi, de 78 años, estaba ingresado en el hospital Gemelli por una patología oncológica y había sido elegido como médico personal por Francisco en 2015, cuando era consultor de la Dirección de Sanidad e Higiene del Vaticano y director emérito de Hepatología del Hospital San Camilo de Roma.
De acuerdo al perfil difundido por la Santa Sede, el médico, nacido en Roma, se licenció en Medicina y en Cirugía en la Universidad La Sapienza de Roma en 1968 y ha desarrollado una “amplia actividad profesional y docente”.
Además, ha dirigido el departamento de enfermedades del hígado, del aparato digestivo y nutricionales del Departamento de medicina interna y fue especialista del Hospital de San Camilo Forlanini, en la capital italiana.
Fabrizio Socorsi también ha impartido clases de Inmunología en la Escuela Médica Hospitalaria de Roma y de la Región Lacio. Entre otras cosas, ha desempeñado “diversas colaboraciones y consultas” en el sector público, con más de un centenar de publicaciones y contribuciones científicas.
Asimismo, fue perito de la Comisión Médica de la Congregación para las Causas de los Santos.
