Vacuna contra el coronavirus en Tennessee: les dijeron a cientos de personas mayores que no la tenían, pero en realidad se la administraron a familiares y amigos.
La indignación y el escándalo se hicieron presentes en Estados Unidos tras una grave denuncia sobre algo que ocurrió en el estado de Tennessee, en relación a la administración de la vacuna Pfizer a la población.
Allí, según informó la cadena de noticias WRCB-TV, personal médico del centro de vacunación Riverpark le comunicó a cientos de personas mayores que no tenían la vacuna del coronavirus, pero en realidad se la terminaron administrando sus familiares y amigos.
Todo sucedió en la víspera de Año Nuevo, cuando toda esta gente (la gran mayoría de más de 75 años) estaba realizando la fila en sus respectivos automóviles para que le administraran la vacuna. En ese momento, los responsables del gran operativo comunicaron que las mismas se habían acabado y que todos debían volver a sus hogares.
“Alerta. Si se encuentra actualmente en la fila de vacunación Covid-19 y está más allá de la intersección de 153 y Amnicola, deje la línea AHORA y regrese en otro momento. Vuelva a consultar más tarde hoy. Pronto se abrirán muchas más oportunidades”, comunicaron desde el Departamento Médico del condado de Hamilton en su cuenta de Twitter, junto con la imagen de un mapa del lugar.

Según detallaron miembros de la cadena televisiva, esto en realidad era falso. En cambio, familiares y amigos de las efectivos de salud que estaban administrando las vacunas convocaron a sus familiares y amigos para que se las dieran.
“Tenemos contactos”, le dijo uno de ellos a un periodista de WRCB-TV, cuando éste le consultó cómo él y otras personas que iban en su vehículo habían logrado vacunarse.
Por lo pronto, la bronca fue enorme entre las personas que no tuvieron la chance de vacunarse. Una situación dejó en evidencia el escándalo: una persona de 94 años hizo la fila durante más de dos horas y media cuando se le acabó su suministro de oxígeno, por lo que se lo debieron cambiar. Finalmente, decidió volver a su casa.
La respuesta de las autoridades
Según Jim Coppinger, alcalde de Hamilton, todo se debió a un «error de cálculo». Por su parte, Becky Barnes, administradora del Departamento Médico de Hamilton, agregó que tenían «más dosis de las que habíamos anticipado».
“Debido a que habían sido descongeladas y preparadas, tenían que administrarse al final del día. Nuestra intención es no desperdiciar ninguna dosis y no desperdiciamos ninguna”, remarcó ante la citada cadena de TV.
Y puntualizó: “Las enfermeras pudieron dar 6 y ocasionalmente 7 dosis en algunas filas en lugar de las 5 proyectadas. Ese fue nuestro primer día usando la vacuna Pfizer y el personal no tenía antecedentes para proyectar las dosis reales que tendríamos”.
Según describió Insider, los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades (CDC, por sus siglas en inglés) especifican que “la primera fase de la administración de la vacuna es para los trabajadores de primera línea que responden a la pandemia, así como para las personas de 75 años o más”.
