despiden a piloto en Taiwán; lo acusan de ser el primero en transmitir covid-19
La situación despertó las alarmas y el hombre ha sido considerado como un «enemigo público» en los medios locales.
La aerolinea EVA Airways Corp de Taiwán despidió a un piloto de Nueva Zelanda después de que el gobierno lo culpara de provocar el primer caso de coronavirus transmitido localmente en la isla desde el 12 de abril, debido a que no siguió las reglas sanitarias de prevención.
El gobierno se sorprendió por el anuncio de la infección de una mujer habitante de la isla, amiga de un piloto de Nueva Zelanda que se había infectado de coronavirus a principios de esta semana tras haber volado rutas a Estados Unidos.
El caso ha llegado a tal punto que en la televisión taiwanesa han calificado al piloto como «enemigo público», mientras que la opinión pública ha expresado su ira por la situación, esto luego de conocerse la versión del gobierno, quien reveló que el piloto no había informado de todos sus contactos y los lugares en los que había estado, ni había usado un cubrebocas en la cabina del piloto.
La situación sigue preocupando a Taiwán, que se ha mantenido bajo control ante la pandemia del covid-19, esto gracias a métodos de prevención tempranos y efectivos y al uso generalizado de cubrebocas, pues todos los casos nuevos durante los últimos 250 días se encuentran entre los viajeros que llegan a la isla.
EVA Air dijo que una reunión de su comité de disciplina encontró que el piloto había violado las regulaciones gubernamentales, incluida la ley de transmisión de enfermedades, y que habían decidido despedirlo, con vigencia inmediata.
«EVA Air siempre ha cumplido con las políticas de prevención de epidemias del gobierno y la mayoría de los miembros de la tripulación también siguieron las regulaciones de prevención de epidemias», dijo la empresa.
La compañía aérea agregó que «sin embargo, el comportamiento de un empleado individual ha socavado los esfuerzos de todos en la prevención de epidemias».
EVA Air, como la mayoría de las aerolíneas, tiene un horario muy reducido debido a las restricciones fronterizas a nivel mundial.
Ni la aerolínea ni el gobierno han nombrado al piloto, que está siendo tratado en el hospital, tampoco ha sido posible contactarlo para hacer comentarios.
Hablando más temprano el miércoles, el ministro de Salud, Chen Shih-chung, dijo que 170 de los contactos de la mujer dieron negativo para el virus, mientras que otros tres están esperando la notificación de las pruebas.
Taiwán ha informado de un total de 777 casos, en su mayoría importados, y siete muertes. Alrededor de 130 personas permanecen en el hospital para recibir tratamiento.
