Muere Pat Quinn, creador del Ice bucket Challenge, a los 37 años
Quinn seguía en la lucha por dar a conocer y buscar apoyo para combatir la ELA, una enfermedad neurodegenerativa que afecta el cerebro y la médula espinal.
El Ice bucket challenge fue un reto que se volvió viral hace unos años debido a lo divertido y refrescante que resultó llevarlo a cabo, pues consistía en vaciarse una cubeta llena de hielo y agua. Aunque esta dinámica tenía un fin solidario: sus creadores, Pete Frates y Pat Quinn, lo crearon para concientizar sobre la Esclerosis Lateral Amiotrófica (ELA), conocida como la enfermedad de Lou Gehrig, que ambos padecían.
Luego del deceso de Frates el año pasado, a los 34 años, Quinn siguió en la lucha por dar a conocer y buscar apoyo para combatir la ELA; sin embargo, este domingo se informó de su fallecimiento, a los 37 años.
En 2014, millones de personas, entre ellos muchos famosos, grabaron videos en los que se les arrojaba hielo en la cabeza y los publicaron en las redes sociales a la vez que desafiaban a otros a hacer lo mismo.
Como resultado, el movimiento recaudó 220 millones de dólares, lo que provocó una ola de investigación y desarrollo para encontrar nuevos tratamientos para la enfermedad, que hasta ahora no tiene cura.
ELA es una enfermedad neurodegenerativa que afecta el cerebro y la médula espinal, provocando una parálisis progresiva.

El pasado 20 de noviembre, Quinn publicó un mensaje en su cuenta de Twitter desde el hospital.
«Una nueva forma de vida después de la traqueotomía, ¡pero es vivir y tengo cosas que hacer! La última vez que salí del hospital, volví un día después con neumonía / dificultad para respirar», indicó el mensaje.
