EE. UU. aprobó medicamento baricitinib para enfrentar a la COVID-19
Estados Unidos aseguró que este medicamento puede usarse para tratar a personas portadoras del coronavirus.
El uso del medicamento baricitinib, fabricado por el laboratorio Eli Lilly, fue aprobado por las autoridades de los Estados Unidos para ser utilizado como tratamiento para pacientes con el virus de la COVID-19 en caso de emergencia.
El baricitinib, hecho principalmente para la artritis reumatoide, puede bloquear la entrada viral y reducir la mortalidad en las personas con la COVID-19 que hayan pasado de un estado moderado a grave.
El ensayo, que involucró a 1.000 pacientes asignados aleatoriamente, mostró una mayor recuperación en un tiempo reducido. Este medicamento fue aprobado por la Administración de Alimentos y Drogas (FDA, por sus siglas en inglés).
“Baricitinib estará autorizado solo mientras dure la declaración de que existen circunstancias que justifiquen la autorización del uso de emergencia”, explica el comunicado publicada de la FDA.
La agencia reguladora de medicamentos aclaró también que será necesario esperar los resultados finales de otros estudios que se están realizando para confirmar la efectividad del fármaco.
Nueva investigación sobre el coronavirus
Un estudio publicado por la Universidad de Oxford asegura que las personas infectadas con el coronavirus tienen pocas posibilidades de volver a contraer la enfermedad en al menos seis meses.
Realizada en colaboración con los Hospitales Universitarios de Oxford, esta investigación a gran escala sobre la inmunidad a la COVID-19 no ha sido aún revisada de forma independiente.
De confirmarse, sus resultados explicarían por qué, aunque 51 millones de personas en todo el mundo han sido infectadas con el coronavirus, los casos de reinfección siguen siendo relativamente pocos.
“Podemos estar seguros de que, al menos a corto plazo, la mayoría de las personas que contraen la COVID-19 no lo volverán a contraer”, afirmó el profesor David Eyre, uno de los autores de la investigación.
