Declaran oficialmente fin de brote de ébola en el Congo
Fue este miércoles cuando autoridades sanitarias informaron a las OMS que en más de 48 horas no se han reportado nuevos casos de ébola.
Este miércoles, autoridades de la República Democrática del Congo declararon oficialmente el fin del brote de ébola, una enfermedad que por onceava vez tuvo impacto entre sus comunidades.
Fue el ministro congoleño de Salud, el doctor Eteni Longondo, quien se encargó de dar aviso a las autoridades correspondientes de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) sobre el fin de este brote registrado en la provincia occidental de Equateur.
El aviso se dio luego de que, en más de 48 horas, no se registraron nuevos casos de contagio; este nuevo brote dejó como resultado 55 muertos, 119 casos confirmados y 75 pacientes recuperados, de acuerdo con cifras de la OMS y del Ministerio de Salud.
Este brote se declaró el 1 de junio y su alerta se lanzó días antes de que se terminará el segundo brote de ébola en la parte este del país, la cual fue calificada como la más mortal que se ha registrado tras dejar dos mil 280 muertos en casi dos años; autoridades de Salud informaron que estos dos brotes no estaban relacionados.
A lo largo de este brote también se lograron vacunar a más de 40 mil personas, pero el ministro de salud pidió a la población continuar con las medidas de higiene y seguir en alerta para evitar que haya un brote más de esta enfermedad, así como del coronavirus, otro virus que ha causado un fuerte impacto en el mundo.
Por su parte, la OMS felicitó y enalteció el trabajo de las autoridades sanitarias del Congo para controlar el brote.

El responsable de la OMS en África, Matshidiso Moeti, especificó que la tecnología utilizada para la vacuna contra el ébola podrá aplicarse también a la vacuna de Covid-19 para cuando esta esté lista.
La tecnología utilizada para mantener la vacuna del ébola en temperaturas súper bajas será de ayuda cuando se traiga la vacuna del Covid-19 a África. Combatir el ébola en paralelo con el Covid-19 no ha sido fácil, pero buena parte de los conocimientos que hemos adquirido en una enfermedad son aplicables a la otra, y subrayan la importancia de invertir en preparación ante emergencias y aumentar la capacidad local
