Científico detrás de vacuna contra COVID-19 pronostica cuándo se podría volver a la «vida normal»
El profesor Ugur Sahin, de 55 años, cofundador de la empresa alemana BioNTech, dijo que las primeras inyecciones podrían estar disponibles para las personas en el Reino Unido en solo unas semanas.
El científico detrás de la vacuna de Pfizer contra el coronavirus aseguró que su lanzamiento podría comenzar a mediados del próximo mes.
El profesor Ugur Sahin, de 55 años, cofundador de la empresa alemana BioNTech (asociada con Pfizer para el desarrollo de la vacuna) dijo que las primeras inyecciones podrían estar disponibles para las personas en el Reino Unido en algunas semanas en conversación con el medio británico Sky News
«El primer momento para el suministro de vacunas no será antes de mediados de diciembre. Y mediados de diciembre no significará que la situación cambiará drásticamente. Será un invierno difícil. Empeorará antes de mejorar», declaró Sahin.
El científico aseguró que considerando esa fecha para el inicio de la vacunación, se «podría volver a la vida normal a mediados del próximo año» con la ayuda de la vacuna, que es 90% efectiva en la protección contra el coronavirus.
Según el profesor Sahin, este es un «resultado sobresaliente», ya que los científicos serios consideran una eficacia potencial entre el 60, 70 y 80%.
El gobierno de ese país ha asegurado el acceso a 40 millones de dosis de la inyección. Y 10 millones, suficientes para cinco millones de británicos, estarán disponibles para el Reino Unido a finales de año.
Cuando se le preguntó si recibirá la vacuna, el profesor Sahin respondió: «Sí, por supuesto, la tomaría el primer día que se me permita hacerlo».
