Daño en los testículos e infertilidad, posibles daños tras contagiarse de Coronavirus
La investigación realizada por la escuela de medicina de la Universidad de Miami descubrió indicios de que el Covid-19 podría provocar daños en los tejidos de los testículos, lo que resultaría en daños a la fertilidad masculina.
De acuerdo con el estudio de la escuela de medicina Miller, que pertenece a la Universidad de Miami, el virus de SARS-CoV-2 puede invadir el tejido de los testículos en algunos hombres infectados por la enfermedad, presenten o no síntomas.
“Estos hallazgos podrían ser el primer paso para descubrir el impacto potencial de Covid-19 en la fertilidad masculina y si el virus se puede transmitir sexualmente”, mencionó el autor principal del estudio, Ranjith Ramasamy, profesor de urología reproductiva de la Universidad de Miami.
La investigación realizó seis biopsias a hombres que han muerto a causa de la enfermedad provocada por Covid-19, e incluso a un paciente recuperado de la enfermedad y que era asintomático, “pero aún así mostró la presencia del virus dentro de los testículos”, dijo el autor.
Destacó que este hallazgo es “novedoso, notable y ciertamente digno de una mayor exploración”, mientras que en otras tres muestras descubrió una “función deficiente de los espermatozoides”.
El autor mencionó que es necesario realizar más estudios para evaluar exactamente “cómo responde el tejido testicular al virus y lo que eso podría significar para la fertilidad masculina y la transmisión sexual”.
